Claude’s Chocolate

Claude's Gourmet Chocolates

My daughter takes me out for Chocolate every year on my Birthday. Note the capital "C" for chocolate?  That's because she doesn't just give me a Hershey's kiss or even a dark chocolate ghirardhelli square... she takes me to Claude's Chocolate in St. Augustine, FL. I think this is an outstanding little tradition {she even thought of it herself!} and it's the #1 reason I love Claude's Chocolate.  Sweet memories with my girl... From the time construction began in 1672 to the present day, St. Augustine's coquina fort, the Castillo de San … [Read more...]

Discount Grocery and more 2.0

St Augustine's Discount Groceries is neat and clean

Update: The Discount Groceries store in the city closed a while ago. Their 2nd location, at the beach, is still open and is clean, airy and well stocked. The photos here are from the old store. Check out the new place! It's worth the drive. I saved tons on my last trip there! I was prepared for the worst when I pulled in the parking lot.  Most "bargain groceries" stores are dirty and cluttered.  My sis & I found ice cream that was 2 years old and cans of veggies years out of date in a different bargain store in Central Florida. {yuck} But there are bargains to be had … [Read more...]

ROAD TRIP: Gold Head Branch State Park

This is the last of our Keystone Heights Road Trip.  It's only an hour away yet our time at Gold Head Branch State Park offered us the chance to unplug, reset & enjoy one another.  We brought our own food, they provided the peace & quiet and nature.  Read Day 1 here. You drive through pines & a few scrub oaks on the way back to the cabins.  I'm not a pine tree fan.  I mean, they're fine and all... but oaks are where it's at.  They're so majestic & stately (and they offer shade) so we chose the Ravine trail instead of hiking the Sandhill trails … [Read more...]
