Love is…

LOVE St Augustine

What is love? Love is hearts-a-flutter. Love is a rock- I for him and he for me. Love is faithfulness for better & for worse. Love is exploring new streets hand-in-hand. Love is an inside joke then laughing out loud. Love is going fishing even though I get seasick. Love is size 4, size 14- it doesn't matter.  Love is deep. Love is patient and kind, quick to give forgiveness and a hug. Love is me being on time... and him being patient when I'm late. Love is cracked facades and narrow, uneven brick streets.  Love is better with age. After 16 years, love is … [Read more...]

Poolside service at Casa Monica

I'm Mamma to six busy children.  So a weekend away with my hubby is wonderful... and a weekend away with poolside pampering is pure bliss!  We enjoy drinks, a light lunch and naps by the pool when we stay at the historic Casa Monica Hotel in downtown St. Augustine.  Poolside cabanas for two are pretty romantic! … [Read more...]

The New Hyppo

Hyppo Punch Card

Q: Why did The Hyppo cross the road?  A: To get to the gourmet popsicles on the other side! {bwahahahaha... hahaha... ha... what? you're not laughing!?!} The Hyppo's new location is across the street from the old- you won't get lost looking for it.  Same amazing gourmet popsicles, same unpredictable flavors, but a lot more space and a few more items on the menu board. If you're new to The Hyppo, it's a gourmet popsicle shop that has wacky flavors like Datil Strawberry & Pineapple Cilantro.  You can read my blog about our first visit to The Hyppo … [Read more...]

Where to Rent Bikes in St Augustine

bikes in St Augustine

Historic St. Augustine is a pedestrian town.  It's so much easier to park your car and walk than to navigate narrow 1-way streets.  And there's so much to see, stores to pop in and out of, and cafes to try... If, however, you want to enjoy the architecture of the historic homes, and keep moving so you can feel a "breeze", I suggest renting bikes.  Pedal out to Lincolnville or behind Flagler College and see St. Augustine much as it has been for decades- even a century!  Or ride the beach and enjoy Florida at it's best. I'm local, so I've never rented from any of these, … [Read more...]

St. Augustine voted Floridians’ Favorite City!

st augustine in the news

As all the locals know, St. Augustine is a great place to live. In this part of my site, I share news articles from around the nation where our fair city has been featured. In this one, Floridians select St. Augustine as their favorite city! Floridians Select St. Augustine as their Favorite City {excerpt} "Just ask a local." That phrase is widely accepted as the best advice anyone can offer with regard to finding the true story of a destination. So that's exactly what Public Policy Polling did earlier this month. Renowned for their work in political polling and their … [Read more...]

Cafe del Hidalgo

Gelato at Cafe del Hidalgo

I have discovered the best deal in St. Augustine.  Hint #1: It's at Cafe del Hidalgo.  Hint #2: It includes gelato.  {read on!} We've been eating their made-fresh-daily gelato for years.  With flavors that vary from exotic {pink grapefruit, hazelnut, coconut} to traditional {chocolate & vanilla} there's a flavor for everyone!  And since homemade gelato is made with milk, not cream, it's refreshing without being heavy on a hot day.  Healthy dessert!?  Yes, please! Gran wanted to treat us to dessert after our dinner at the Chianti Room (review coming soonish).  … [Read more...]

St. Augustine Carousel at Davenport Park

Carousel St Augustine

Every local knows about St. Augustine's Carousel (my kids prefer to call it a Merry Go Round).  But did you know it's a completely handicap-accessible park?  And did you know it's only $1 to ride the carousel (free for kids with disabilities!)?  No more speeding by this St. Augustine playground- it's time you got to know Davenport Park. Seth & Sarah introduced us to this park before they moved to Tennessee {sniff sniff}.  They'd grab take-out pizza {Pizzalleys, Pizza Time & Pizza Hut are all nearby} and claim a picnic table with their girls for an inexpensive … [Read more...]

Bonefish Grill for Sunday Brunch

Bonefish Grill is now serving Sunday brunch in Jacksonville! You know I'm a softy for the local dining scene here in St. Augustine.  But when I was invited to blog the Bonefish Brunch the day before it officially opened, I eagerly accepted.  Truth be told, I hadn't stepped foot in a Bonefish Grill for years {we don't have one in St. Augustine} and I had a hard time figuring out how happily brunch & fish would marry... I wasn't really sure what to expect. I arrived 20 minutes before the friends I was to dine with, so I sipped a signature 10 ingredient Fresh … [Read more...]
