Explore the St. Simons Lighthouse & Maritime Center

maritime heritage museum st simons island

The Road Trip section of my site is where I share our wanderings from our hometown- St. Augustine, Florida {Viva St. Augustine!}  This post is from a writer's retreat to St. Simons Island.  I slipped off to the laid-back, charming island community of St. Simons Island alone for a much-needed mommy break. But even when I'm away, I'm always on the lookout for special things to do with my kiddos. Which leads me to today's post... An Atlanta blogger, Alicia, visited the Maritime Center on a previous trip with her children and thought I'd love this hands-on, historic museum. … [Read more...]

Shopping Locally with Beach 105.5

Beach 105 St Augustine

Beach 105.5, the St. Augustine radio station, did a fun giveaway for Christmas. The prize was $105! And guess what!? I won! I promised if I won, I'd spend the money locally so the station was doubly awesome and doubled my prize money- $105 for me and $105 to spend locally. WOW!!! The kiddos and I went yesterday and picked up our 2 prize checks. I had to pick one local biz for them to write the first check to and it was SO hard to pick!! I vacillated between Spice and Tea and Claude's Chocolates... as a foodie, both are favorites and I knew I could buy gifts for … [Read more...]

Winter Escape: St. Simons Island

King and Prince st simons island

The Road Trip section of my site is where I share our wonderings from the lovely city of St. Augustine, Florida {Viva St. Augustine! Viva!}  This post is from a writer's retreat to St. Simons Island. As much as I love the excitement that Nights of Lights brings to St. Augustine, by the end of December my soul longs for quiet- a bit of solitude- to both relish the truths of the Christmas season and recover from the fun! I recently slipped away to St. Simons Island and found a place that's as beautiful as St. Augustine but in a quieter, more genteel way. Historic The King … [Read more...]

Corazon Cinema

Corazon Movies Downtown St Augustine

Tucked away at the end of Granada Street is a local gem- Corazon Cinema and Cafe. The cafe opens for lunch at 11:00 AM and weeknight movies start at 7:00 PM but this venue strives to be more than just a movie theatre. Special events, matinees, room rentals, live music and free parking make Corazon an easy entertainment choice in the heart of St. Augustine. Hubby and I slipped down to Corazon on a quiet weeknight for dinner and a movie. We were both relieved that the beer selection went beyond Bud & Bud Lite. He ordered a local brew without question- Bold City … [Read more...]

The city proudly … [Read more...]
