Meehan’s Irish Pub

It's time to give Meehan's another chance. Hubby and I hadn't been to Meehan's in quite some time. Our 2012 experience on the balcony of Meehan's Irish Pub was "meh" - we've since learned that we were there just before they replaced both kitchen and management staff. That explains a lot. Meehan's has since had 2 new head chefs, an updated menu and new management - and I have a new opinion of Meehan's Irish Pub. Guinness Beef Sliders {$13} are on the appetizer menu and they're a great way to start your meal here. This "simple" app introduces a discerning diner … [Read more...]

Bad News: Local Biz Owner Arrested as Sexual Predator

st augustine in the news

You know I keep things positive, friendly and fun here on Simply St. Augustine... but I need to rescind a recommendation I've made many times. Our family enjoyed our trip on the Jax Water Tours Dolphin Tour but will not be riding again. The owner of this tour, 53 year old Brooks Mitchell, was charged with "transmitting a sex act to a minor by a computer" by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and arrested when he went to a 14 year old's home allegedly for sex {"allegedly"- but it's all on camera}. More info in this article. He is on probation with the Florida Department … [Read more...]

Chef’s Table at Michael’s Tasting Room

There are moments when life seems too good to be true. When hubby and I relax into a plush velvet banquette at Michael's Tasting Room anticipating his expertly prepared 5 course Chef's Table paired with wines, I often lean over to hubs and whisper, "pinch me!" Any evening at Michael's Tasting Room is both delicious and relaxing but the Chef's Table is a unique foodie experience among St. Augustine restaurants. Every Chef's Table experience differs; Michael procures the freshest regional ingredients of the season first and builds a menu around them. He … [Read more...]

St. Simons Island Tours

The Road Trip section of my site is where I share our wanderings from our hometown- St. Augustine, Florida {Viva St. Augustine!}  This post is from a writer’s retreat to St. Simons Island. “Welcome to the impeccable weather island,” local tour guide Cap Fendig said as we gathered around his trolley for a tour of St. Simons Island. And Cap should know all about weather patterns- he's a 7th generation resident of the Golden Isles. Lighthouse Trolley's 90 minute tours start at the village pier, where Cap may point out Jekyll Island's shore across the inlet. When I gazed … [Read more...]

Metro Diner St. Augustine Now Open!!!

Today's the day!!! We've been Metro Diner fans for years. When Hubby and I first married, we lived near the original in San Marco and I would save my extra grocery cash and then grab breakfast there. Ben {now 16} was a little tyke then and we'd share pecan waffles and a water. Big spenders. Fast forward a few years and you'd find 6 of us driving from CR210 to the Julington Creek location. This past year, 7 of us started frequenting the Roosevelt location in Jacksonville before co-op on Fridays. protip: Early weekday mornings there are no lines & service is fast... … [Read more...]
