After a week in New York, my hubby and I needed to reset our lives to the kick-back, smile at everyone, enjoy the sun on my skin pace of Florida. When I-4 gave way to I-95, we eagerly looked for exit 284 & headed for Flagler Beach. Turn R onto A1A and High Tides is about 3 miles South on the dunes- been there since ’47.
It was an accidental discovery, really, several years ago. I-4 traffic kept me & our 6 children cooped up for hours and we were hungry, thirsty and we had to go to the bathroom… in other words, we needed to get out of the van right now. Driving up A1A, High Tides caught my eye and minutes later, I turned the keys of my
“swagger wagon” over to the valet in board shorts and we all ran for the ocean.
I fell in love with High Tides’ beachside picnic tables, fish tacos & blackened fish reubens, and amazing key lime tarts. The children loved splashing in the waves while we waited for our food and Daddy loves how quickly the last hour of our drive back to St. Augustine goes after the break! Now it’s a family ritual- we stop every time we drive by, whether from Orlando, Miami or just Daytona.
When you’re headed to St. Augustine, stop by High Tides on your way- it deserves a chance at becoming your favorite beach dive, too. Tell them Simply St Augustine sent you!
