In the heart of historic St. Augustine, a quaint historic home is filled with chocolatey goodness. Cakes, tortes, cheesecakes and other decadent desserts fill the case and beckon passersby to stop & sit a spell in the air conditioned café or on one of their two patios.
Need more convincing? Check out their signature dessert, the Chocolate Turtle:
My hubby and I ended up at The Chocolate Turtle one night after a stroll around town. Owners Lisa and Laura mentioned this was part of their vision for the dessert café- a hangout that is open late every night. While they offer craft beer and wine, you’ll find the ambiance more that of a coffee shop than a bar, setting this nighttime spot apart.
The front patio is a fun spot for people watching. Being directly on Cordova and next to Scarlett O’Hara’s, there is certainly plenty to see and hear! If you’re looking for a quieter, more romantic setting head to the back patio.
Inside, the air conditioning is quite alluring during the middle of a hot day!!
Lisa was quick to point out their vegan and gluten free options- The Chocolate Turtle blows dietary restrictions out of the water. Their in-house pastry chef dreams up all kinds of amazing treats in the kitchen upstairs. I tried the GF Flourless Torte:
In addition to all their dessert options, The Chocolate Turtle offers an artisan cheese plate and locally roasted coffee. I love how they’re supporting locals- they source their cheeses & wines from a local gourmet shop, too! I’ve heard rumors of some not-as-sweet baked goodies earlier in the day to appeal to the breakfast crowd as well.
While I’m still a die-hard Kookaburra Coffee fan for my lattes, I absolutely adore the late-night-dessert concept at The Chocolate Turtle. These local ladies have dreamed up a great addition to the heart of historic St. Augustine and I plan to enjoy many sweet nights out on their back patio! See ya there!
