It could’ve been worse… {it could’ve happened in Nevada}
Today started out beautifully. Three of my kids spent the night with Granny & Pops so I only had 3 littles to get up and out for our field trip in Historic St. Augustine. Easy, breezy. We left the cloudy, rainy skies behind and we left in plenty of time to swing by Kookaburra for my fave coconut latte!!
One for me {sweet} and one for my mom {not so sweet}. I called ahead and Spencer was even kind enough to have them ready for me! As we parked in the Castillo lot for our field trip, I smiled at the sun shining in the brilliant sky… it was going to be a perfect day!!

When I came came back from the parking meter, my 5 yo’s downcast face let me know something happened. Andrew sat in Mom’s coffee. Don’t ask me how. So now he had wet pants for our field trip, my van smelled like coconut {hmm… not all bad!} and Mom had 3/4 of a latte left. It’s all good, I grabbed some napkins, told Andrew some predictable mom-ism like, “this is why you’re supposed to stay in your seat when I tell you to” and I put the coffees on the curb so we wouldn’t repeat a spill.
After unbuckling the girls and grabbing my backpack full of sketch pads, my camera, etc, we were finally ready for the field trip. I picked up Mom’s 3/4 full coffee then bent down for mine. Yeah, you see it coming, huh? My full cup of coconut deliciousness slipped right out of my hand and spread all across the parking lot! Andrew was gracious enough not to tell me, “Mom, this is why you need to be careful when carrying a lot of things!” {sigh. one AND a quarter down… 3/4 of a cup of my favorite latte to share!}
So I walked up to to the Castillo with one latte to share with my Mom- 3/4 full, in a cup crushed by a 5 year old hiney. It’s a good thing she’s the nicest mom & granny ever! She’d be happy to laugh with me about it. Mom was already teaching the kids in our homeschool group how to do a color study so I set her latte down while checking in with the ranger. I came back to an empty cup. A friend dropped her sketch pad and spilled my coffee and was so, so, sorry… but at least it didn’t get on my camera.
{I wish she would’ve drank it instead, at least someone could have enjoyed these coconut lattes!} I just smiled. At this point it was comical… almost. That’s 3 spills from 2 cups in 10 minutes. Inconceivable!!!
I won’t tell you the rest of our day (like our drive down the road to eat at a restaurant that ended up being closed for remodel so we then walked alllllll the way back to a place *right across the street* from where we were parked the first time!) but let’s just say that no matter what craziness happens in St. Augustine (pizza place giving bad directions so hubby drove around for an hour to find our “quick beachside dinner” and we ate soggy pizza) we still live in paradise!
Dad laughed with me at the end of the day- if this is a bad day, honey, you’re doing pretty good. Amen, Dad. Amen.
p.s. About the title… nothing against Nevada.

Sometimes I wander too, Erica! He usually lets us know EXACTLY what he’s thinking… but he kept quiet that day. {smart little man!}

Wow! what a funny piece! I love all the little inserts you did! I was literally laughing out loud!
Don’t ever stop seeing the humor is everyday life. It is there if we look for it!

I’m glad our mishaps could brighten your day!
It would’ve been better if it had just been Starbucks. But Kookaburra’s coconut latte!?! {sigh} hehehe
