Jax Illuminations Christmas Lights in Jacksonville, Florida

Going grocery shopping may not be considered a “road trip” to many, but shopping at Costco in Jacksonville counts as one to me.  Costco for our family of 8 = I feel like I’m moving half the store with me when we load up and head back to St. Augustine with our haul!!

This week, we had the BEST Costco trip ever because we drove through the Jacksonville Southside attraction Jax Illuminations drive thru Christmas Lights on the way home!

Jax Illuminations is near the St. Johns Town Center off St. Johns Bluff Road- it’s so easy to get there from JTB or 295.  We pulled in the parking lot and drove to the ticket booth.  $20 gets the whole car in on weekdays, $25 on weekends.

protip: Tell Jax Illuminations you read about them on Simply St. Augustine for a $3 discount!!  Merry Christmas!

There are a few rules at Jax Illuminations:

  1. Turn off your headlights- you’ll enjoy the light show more
  2. Leave on your parking lights- it keeps other cars from hitting you {because that could put a damper in the holiday spirit!}
  3. Radio up!! The lights are synchronized with music.  They’ll tell you what station to use.
  4. Stay in the car- safety 1st!

We drove through 1 mile of lights- all synchronized to Christmas music.  We sang along and drove veerrrrryyyyy slllloooooowwllyyyyyy… sometimes stopping all together to take in certain displays.  This is not the neighborhood christmas lights set to music.  Jax Illuminations Christmas Lights is aiming to be an annual attraction the whole family loves.

The couple who started Jax Illuminations were inspired by childhood memories in Nashville and in England.  Their goal is to create a fun tradition for Jacksonville residents and with 462,140 LED lights, I’d say they’re off to a great start.

I kept having to call Timothy back in the car, he was practically hanging out the window the entire ride!

Most people’s favorite part is the light tunnel.  My favorite is actually this tree:

Isn’t it pretty?

The best part of the show is the synchronization with the music.  You can sit in one spot and watch the light show for quite some time… or until the car behind you politely honks.  {that didn’t happen}  The kids were enchanted and that made me one happy mamma.

Santa can fit a lot of presents in his sack… and you can fit a lot of people in your car!  Load up and enjoy a spin through Jax Illuminations.  Merry Christmas!

NOW you know where to find Christmas lights in Jacksonville!

I took this through a special lens... love the twinkle effect!!

  1. This is awesome! There was something like this in Texas but I only found out about it before we moved and never got to it! I’m hoping to go to this soon :)
