THE DRIVE DOWN... Dad, Mom and 6 excited children piled into our Sienna with a fun destination in mind- the newly opened LEGOLAND Florida theme park!! My hubby is a “drive-straight-through-no-matter-how-long-you’ve-been-holding-it-or-we’ll-never-get-there” kind of tripper.  Especially since we were leaving late (6:30 … [Read more...]

In Search of Wi-Fi

Love the architecture of Casa Monica Hotel

Study.  Work.  Blog.  Plan.  Research.  Read.  Relax. I needed WiFi in St. Augustine last week for all of the above- I'll share my favorite hot spots with you. I started my afternoon at The Tasting Room To Go.  There are only a couple of teeny tables inside, and it was a beautiful day, so I spread out my books & laptop on one of the large tables in the courtyard.  Sipping a {locally sourced} latte under venerable oaks, I was tempted to forego teacher planning and just enjoy the crisp chocolate chip & marshmallow cookie on my plate… This cookie was the … [Read more...]

Athena Restaurant

 My hubby and I stopped in Athena Cafe on a crisp December afternoon.  We were headed out on the Freedom for a sunset sail and needed a warm meal for dinch? lunner?  Well, anyway, it was around 3:00 and we were hungry.  Athena Restaurant has a good reputation, but we really knew we were in for an authentic meal when we saw a table surrounded by 3 or 4 couples lingering over their lunch & wine, bantering in Greek. I deliberated for a while, the menu has everything from Veggie Wraps to Gourmet Burgers & Reubens to Steaks & Chops!  Chris immediately ordered the … [Read more...]

Bucket List- Fly in a Biplane!!

St Augustine Air Tours Sunset Flight

I'm wistfully imagining the varied blues of the Atlantic rushing onto the sun-bleached sand and shells of St. Augustine Beach.  Sure, I can walk down to the beach anytime, but it's gotta be spectacular to make my bucket list- I want to FLY over the beach!!! "I liken it to riding a Harley at 1,000 feet," quipped Gary McDonald of St. Augustine Air Tours. When I saw today's Groupon, my heart skipped a beat!!  Check it out, a half-price plane flight!!  That makes it $87 for a Scenic St. Augustine flight!  (You have to buy it within 3 days- that's by Monday, January … [Read more...]

Pizza Time

Pizza Time on St. George Street St Augustine

"You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six." -Yogi Berra Everybody loves a good pizza.  And everybody has a favorite- my hubby likes a NY style cheese folded up with grease dripping down his arm.  I prefer mine loaded with toppings and resting on a well seasoned, crisp crust.  Whatever your preference, Pizza Time on St. George Street delivers! We stopped on our way to ride the Big Red Train and picked up several slices.  I'm posting in order from least favorite to get your greasy paws off my slice of pizza {most favorite}. 3. … [Read more...]

St. Augustine’s Historic Inns, part 4 {finally!}

Simply St Augustine was recently invited to tour the St Augustine Historic Inns on the 2011 Bed & Breakfast Holiday Tour, which featured 25 B&Bs and Historic Inns.  I'm sharing my experience with a 4 part post, this is the last.  Start with part 1 here. First, full disclosure: I definitely have a favorite!! I did not make it to all of the inns this year, and each was truly delightful in one way (or several!)  I hope this little tour has inspired you to stay in one or 26 and choose your own favorite!  Now for the final three inns and my own personal … [Read more...]
