St. Augustine Beach Pier & Splash Park

After being a Mamma for 13+ years, I've learned the art of give & take. The kiddos gave a good morning of school & some time wondering around the Wednesday farmers market, so I took a break and let them play at the splash park! St. Augustine's Splash Park at the Pier is just one of the things that draws families to this part of St. Augustine Beach.  At this 4 acre park, you'll find a fishing pier, volleyball courts, covered pavilions & live music on Wednesday nights {through the summer- check my what to do in St. Augustine page to see a smattering of other … [Read more...]

Butler Beach

Boardwalk to Butler Beach in St Augustine

I love St. Augustine's Butler Beach.  It's technically in Crescent Beach- about a 12 - 15 minute drive from downtown St. Augustine.  It takes an extra couple of minutes to get there... but it's worth the drive.  Don't miss the turn- almost across from the fire station.  {Handy for accidents... we've had to drive there before!}  This small sign is all that marks the entrance. You can drive on the beach, but we always park in the lot.  This is a  St Augustine Beach with clean bathrooms, a shower and two covered pavilions making it perfect for a St. Augustine Beach … [Read more...]

Rainy Day at the Beach

Butler Beach - St. Augustine Beach, Florida morning of June 8, 2012 It's been a week of bad weather in St. Augustine, Florida.  We're thankful for the rain- water levels are up again and the garden looks great- but the kiddos {and their mamma} are going stir-crazy!  Today, we decided to brave the rain and have breakfast at the beach.  It couldn't have been a more perfect day for it. … [Read more...]

St. Augustine Beach

St Augustine Beach Boardwalk Sunset

A couple of weeks ago, we hit Burrito Works Taco Shop on Anastasia Island for dinner and then walked across the street to St. Augustine Beach for sunset.  It's November, so the weather was too cool for a swim in my book- but perfect for bird & surfer watching, splashing and watching the sunset. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll shut up and show you a glimpse of the beauty of St. Augustine Beach / Anastasia Island at sunset. The boardwalk crosses the dunes.  I love the wildflowers and sea oats that thrive here. We had the place {mostly} to … [Read more...]

Washington Oaks Gardens

Washington Oaks Gardens great view St Augustine

Perfect for picnics, pictures, and people who love the real Florida, Washington Oaks Gardens is, hands-down, my favorite state park! Straddling both sides of A1A, Washington Oaks offers the best of both worlds- beach running along the Atlantic Ocean showcasing unique coquina rock formations on one side of the highway and cultivated gardens along the Matanzas River (Intracoastal Waterway) on the other. Although the rocks prohibit swimming in the ocean, you'll love splashing along the shoreline, spreading a towel to relax, and exploring the tidal pools and "caves" … [Read more...]

Vilano Beach

Vilano Beach St Augustine

One of the few beaches in St. John's County that permits driving on the beach, Vilano is an easy-to-find beach destination.  It's just 2 miles north of historic St. Augustine and an easy place to park & picnic or for those of you who bring your whole house to the beach!  Beach Driving access March 1 - the end of September. The beach is also accessible by a boardwalk from the parking lot over the dunes.  My favorite feature of this beach is found along the boardwalk- there are several signs picturing some animals you may see during your trip.  We prefer the … [Read more...]
