St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park and Crocodile Crossing Ziplining Adventure

Day 1 of our 7 things to do on Anastasia Island is the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park. It is so much more than just alligators and crocodiles. We have always referred to it as the Alligator Farm and alligators are definitely the stars with daily feedings at 12 and 3. However, there is much to see and do throughout the park.

Crocodile Crossing, Oh My!

This was not our first visit to the park, but probably one of our most memorable. The Crocodile Crossing is a newer attraction where no one in our family has gone before. Jeff and my daughter decided to go for the gusto and try the more advanced course with 40+ stations. Leading them high above the park with ropes challenges between the ziplines.

The top platform takes you on the Nile River Course (more advanced course) while the lower platform is for the Sepik River Course (shorter course).

The adventure was challenging, but as Jenna said, “Life-changing” and her favorite adventure of the summer. Hubby, on the other hand, found it a tad bit more scary, but definitely an adventure he enjoyed.  Jeff also said they could take their time because most people opted for the shorter course. Although afraid of the heights at times, he never felt it was unsafe due to the safety cable always being attached and thankful for the water fountains throughout the course. Which is definitely needed during our hot summer days!

Just Want to Observe the Ziplining?

Bryant and I enjoyed running around trying to catch a glimpse of their adventures throughout the park. The best places for some up close and personal snapshots were in the kiddie play area and from the outside porch at the snack bar. This was a particularly nice shaded area to enjoy a refreshing drink and watch for them to swing by! The souvenir cups are refillable free of charge from now and forever more! They offer various sizes of cups at different price points with a variety of drinks including Vitamin Waters.

A souvenir cup that is refillable on each subsequent visit.

Animals of all Kinds in the Open

We enjoyed a show from the lemurs, huge tortoises, alligator feeding at noon,  and the beautiful parrot hanging out in the middle of the park. Our most favorite area was all the way in the back where there are gorgeous birds in the trees surrounding a gator-filled pond. It is such a spectacular area the pictures do not even come close to doing it justice. It is definitely something that must be experienced first hand!

Bring some change to feed the animals throughout the park!
This was just one tree full!

We spent a good portion of our day at the park. The more advanced course did take these amateurs a little over 2 hours to complete the 40+ stations. Will and Zeke were helpful during the safety training at the beginning of the course. They both made sure everyone could pass the required steps to remain safe before venturing out on their own. Although no one wants to admit defeat or need help, there are emergency ladders throughout the park for someone to come up for assistance or for you to bail out.
