The Dark of the Moon Tour is the only ghost tour in St. Augustine that provides access to the St. Augustine Lighthouse and the grounds.
When you have children of various ages with different interests it is often challenging to plan a vacation that excites everyone! We try to allow each one to choose one activity over the summer, so they have something to look forward to. We had to get creative finding something the 13-year-old boy would enjoy in St. Augustine this year.
Want to hunt ghosts like the Ghost Hunters?
The Ghost Hunters came to the St. Augustine Lighthouse on more than one occasion verifying the energy many have experienced. Do you want to know more about what they discovered or how you can have your own experience? Ask your guide more about the Ghost Hunters visit or find out more about their visits on the Dark of the Moon page. I could tell you, but do not want to give away too much of the tour. Somethings need to be a surprise!
Dark of the Moon Tour
The Dark of the Moon Tour is in a class of its own. The guide began the tour by telling stories along the way, but then gave the visitors time to explore the lighthouse and buildings on the surrounding grounds. During this time, we were able to take our “meters” (we rented for an additional $5.oo per meter) and hunt for “energy”. Pretty sure our crew probably scared off any potential sightings, but we still had a fabulous time. There were a couple of possible encounters we could not confirm or deny. It can be a little too much for younger children or anyone afraid of the dark. The “Dark” of the Moon Tour is mainly in the dark with just the light of a glowstick.
What does the boy have to say? He has talked nonstop about the tour for days and wants to know when we are going back for another chance. That says a lot about this tour if he liked it even after climbing all of the stairs to the top. He is a hard cookie to please and entertain unless it involves a baseball field or a video game!
Daytime visit more your fancy?
If hunting ghosts is not your type of fun, the lighthouse is open during the day with a variety of exhibits available. The views at the top are well worth the climb. The St. Augustine Lighthouse is one of the easier lighthouses to climb. The stairs are wider, and the landings throughout offer a chance to catch your breath and sneak a peek out the windows. The spiral staircase continues to the top with a total of 219 steps. Of course, do not forget about the return trip down the 219 steps!
The hubby, son, and I were invited to take this tour in order to share our experience with all of you. We all enjoyed it and would highly recommend making a reservation. Be sure to check out the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum site for more details about combo ticket opportunities to explore the lighthouse and grounds by day and by night!
Thanks Renee and the Dark of the Moon Tour team for an amazing experience! ~ Heather, Jeff, and Bryant
