Simply St. Augustine Road Trips to Legoland Florida!

THE DRIVE DOWN…

Dad, Mom and 6 excited children piled into our Sienna with a fun destination in mind- the newly opened LEGOLAND Florida theme park!!

My hubby is a “drive-straight-through-no-matter-how-long-you’ve-been-holding-it-or-we’ll-never-get-there” kind of tripper.  Especially since we were leaving late (6:30 pm instead of 4:00 pm!)  No problem.  I can do that… right after we stop at the St. Augustine Outlets!!  (Everyone knows the most important part of a good theme park experience is a great pair of shoes!)

We keep the 16 feet in our family fashionably shod at Famous Footwear on the outdoors side.  Our 5 year old Birthday Boy found some perfect tennis shoes on the Clearance rack (Sketchers- $13.00.  Score!).

Finally on the road, we were happy to have a traffic-free ride South on I-95.  On road trips involving I-4, we often take a pit stop at Panera, Chipotle or Chik Fil A (Exit 261- International Speedway in Daytona) because there is a long stretch on I-4 with no easy potty stops for our little ones.  But we didn’t make it that far this time.

Starbucks came to the rescue in more ways than one- clean potty, hot sandwiches for dinner and two Grande, decaf, extra hot, breve, vanilla lattes… with whip.  (Exit 268, 1425 West Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach (386) 676-0679)

From here, it was an easy trip.  We were late enough to avoid the terrors of I-4 and pulled into my GeGe’s driveway just before 10:00.  No, you can’t stay with my awesome grandma… but I’ve stayed at Hampton Inn & Suites many times.  I always find their suites clean and spacious.

If you really want a special getaway, Chalet Suzanne won’t disappoint.  It’s a magical place for both children and adults- rooms are nestled around the property through arched doorways and beside secret gardens.  Each suite is uniquely decorated; I enjoy exploring the rooms and grounds as much as my children do!  The years have been kind and although some of the Chalet has seen better days, the charm of the property makes this a fantastic {and romantic!} place to slip away to.  Breakfast is included in the award-winning restaurant and it may be open for other meals, check with the office.  So whether you’re looking for a whimsical estate that’s steeped with history and charm or a modern chain hotel, you’ll be about 15 minutes from LEGOLAND.

St. Augustine to LEGOLAND is 3 1/2 hours with stops!

Unchain yourself and expect… something… extraordinary!
