The Treasury on the Plaza

St. Augustine is a town of many secrets. The best coffee here is not Starbucks, the best burger is not Five Guys, and the best beach isn’t in the midst of the hustle and bustle either.  To really enjoy this town, you have to dig your toes in the sand, explore hidden streets and chat with the locals. Or follow my St. Augustine blog faithfully. Or both.

Last week, I got a sneak peek of the gorgeous, new-but-old wedding venue in St. Augustine- The Treasury on the Plaza.  You’d never know this gracious event space is tucked away inside the Flagler-era Cathedral Place building on the plaza!

The Grand Ballroom of The Treasury on the Plaza is breathtaking!

The Treasury was built in 1928 as a bank and every highlight of this architectural gem is highlighted as the space takes on a new role as event venue. Eight marble columns, a bar inside the massive walk-in vault {the door still works & there are still safes inside!}, and lovingly restored moldings are all accented by a custom lighting plan that can be tweaked to make each event shine.

Brenda Bushell, the woman behind the elegance of The Treasury, guided our behind-the-scenes tour:

Throughout the renovation, her motto has been, “If it’s historic, we’re keeping it.” With that goal, the Treasury team has transformed a building that has housed half a dozen banks into a first class venue to host 300 – 450 people! Although The Treasury doesn’t officially open until May, 2014, their first event took place last weekend. When we visited, construction teams were putting finishing touches and the decorators were starting to unload the thoughtful pieces that will set this venue apart.

  • Bride’s Room features comfortable furniture to relax in, mirrors for those final touch-ups, a large, private restroom and kitchenette
  • Groom’s Room is everything a man-cave should be with a poker table, tv, leather couches and private kitchen and restroom
  • Adjacent parking lot provides 75 spaces for the most convenient parking in historic St. Augustine!
  • A neutral color palate was carefully selected throughout so all colors & themes will look spectacular against this elegant backdrop
  • Marble from teller stations is being reused in The Vault Bar and other spaces

Speaking of The Vault Bar… check out the massive size of the vault door! If our whole family can stand in front of it, you know the door is big!!

The Vault Bar is tucked away inside the bank vault for super-cool ambiance.

Brenda explained that decor in the bar area will utilize artifacts from the space’s bank days. I can’t wait to visit the completed space!

The Treasury on the Plaza joins other great St. Augustine wedding venues but it’s unique features set it apart. I’ll link *here* when I’m able to attend an event at The Treasury and share “after” photos with you… I know it’s going to be great!

Worked there for years when it was the Atlantic Bank of St. Augustine and I opened that old vault door many, many times. Really great memories of that bank and I’m glad to see someone had a vision and restored it to it’s glory.
