Corazon Cinema

Corazon Movies Downtown St Augustine

Tucked away at the end of Granada Street is a local gem- Corazon Cinema and Cafe. The cafe opens for lunch at 11:00 AM and weeknight movies start at 7:00 PM but this venue strives to be more than just a movie theatre. Special events, matinees, room rentals, live music and free parking make Corazon an easy entertainment choice in the heart of St. Augustine. Hubby and I slipped down to Corazon on a quiet weeknight for dinner and a movie. We were both relieved that the beer selection went beyond Bud & Bud Lite. He ordered a local brew without question- Bold City … [Read more...]

The Chocolate Turtle

St Augustine Dessert Restaurant Chocolate Turtle

The Chocolate Turtle closed. In its place, you'll find Hot Shot Bakery with delish, house-baked sweet treats as well as a breakfast and lunch menu (served most of the day). The owners of Chocolate Turtle have opened a place at the foot of the Vilano Bridge near Kingfish Grill called Dessert First Bistro. Definitely check them out! These ladies rock desserts!! In the heart of historic St. Augustine, a quaint historic home is filled with chocolatey goodness. Cakes, tortes, cheesecakes and other decadent desserts fill the case and beckon passersby to stop & sit a spell in … [Read more...]

Phō Real

st augustine restaurants

~ Pho Real closed November, 2014. ~ I tried pho once... and left the Jacksonville hot spot unimpressed. It took several facebook friends to convince me to try again- it appears that St. Augustine's Phō Real has a devoted local following! So on a recent date night, hubby and I headed over the Bridge of Lions to Phō Real. We reasoned that even if we didn't love pho this time either, we could check out their sushi and the night wouldn't be a complete wash. We were in for a few surprises that night! Surprise #1: I actually like Kimchi. The only thing I knew of kimchi … [Read more...]

Mellow Mushroom St Augustine

St Augustine Mellow Mushroom

Whether you're in Asheville, North Carolina or Portland, Oregon or St. Augustine, Mellow Mushroom somehow manages to keep the feel of a "local place." I've nibbled & noshed pizzas across the globe but what I found in St. Augustine really did rock my world! Flavor and experience is what dinner out is all about to me. The tasty Spinach Artichoke Dip arrived before the girls even finished their placemats! No one had time time to whine, "Moooom, I'm huuuuungry!" That's great service! My hubby, on the other hand, judges a restaurant by its beer selection. Mellow … [Read more...]

Centro Restaurant and Piano Bar

Centro Steakhouse and Piano Bar St Augustine

Centro Restaurant and Piano Bar is the new St. Augustine Steakhouse.  White tablecloths, a baby grand piano and a rose on each table hint at the fine dining experience they promise.  Could they fulfill the expectations they set when I walked in the door? Hubby and I popped in late one evening during Centro's 2nd week open unsure of whether they'd still seat us. Although the last diners were leaving, we were welcomed without hesitation- what hospitality!  Turns out they're open from noon to midnight daily- it's nice to be able to order from a full menu late at … [Read more...]

Ice Plant Bar – the coolest hangout in town

How to make large blocks of ice plant

Rough hewn plank walls.  Guys in suspenders & dolls with ruby red lips.  Everything made to order...  Step inside the new St. Augustine Bar Ice Plant Dining & Vintage Bar and experience how a drink should be made, how food should taste and why St. Augustine's dining scene is not about to cool off. I was in town for meetings and some work time.  Wi-Fi can be hard to find in St. Augustine, so I often end up at the library or Kookaburra Coffee to work.  But after The Florida Room's iced coffee in the afternoon, I decided to forego another dose of caffeine. Ended … [Read more...]
