Carriage Rides in St. Augustine

While just about any day is a perfect one for a horse and buggy tour of St. Augustine, these gorgeous fall days are absolutely blissful! We climbed into a Southern Carriages buggy for a 45 minute tour a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed a ride narrated with history, local lore and lots of laughs. Clara thought she was in a parade- she waved at every car that passed until she fell asleep in her Daddy's arms. Sweet memories! All horse drawn carriages in St. Augustine follow the same basic route agreed upon with the city. Drivers have some flexibility- especially … [Read more...]

Burger Buckets Restaurant

Burger Buckets Restaurant St Augustine

Local funny guy, Kelly, joked, "I noticed Fudge Buckets went into the {old} LoveBerry on St. George Street. Soon, ALL restaurants in St Augustine will be FB." He's not too far off. What started as a "sweet" idea for creatively packaging homemade fudge has developed into 3 locations in 3 historic St. Augustine blocks. The two Fudge Buckets are sweet shops - featuring ice cream, fudge and Pop-n-Off Popcorn - and the 3rd is Burger Buckets, a three-meals-a-day restaurant. The kiddos and I hit Burger Buckets for a late lunch on a recent rainy day. Our friendly server … [Read more...]

Fountain of Youth

Fountain of Youth St Augustine

A 2 story globe. 15 waterfront acres. 30 peacocks. 500 years of documented history. 600 foot observation dock. St. Augustine's Fountain of Youth Park is a surprisingly refreshing stop if you know what you're diving in to! Our family is enjoying "staycationing" in our hometown this summer. Perks come with staycations... like knowing the summer weather patterns! We visited the Fountain of Youth one afternoon and timed it so we'd spend the rainy part of the afternoon in the 2 inside attractions. The first is the Navigator's Planetarium where a peacock tried to … [Read more...]

Afternoon Tea at Colonial Quarter

Girls Tea Party St Augustine

This special tea time is no longer regularly offered. If you are hoping to join, contact the Colonial Quarter to see when the next tea time is available! (904)342-2857 St. Augustine's Colonial Quarter is more than a collection of historic buildings to tour.  A step through the heavy wooden gates any day is a step back in time to centuries where hard work all day was necessary for survival. The recent addition of an afternoon tea experience shares a bit of a young woman's experience in British Colonial St Augustine where tea was not an occasional luxury but a daily way of … [Read more...]

Nao Victoria

El Galeon and Nao Victoria St Augustine

If you've arrived here from the 31 Days of Summer in St Augustine page, you may be curious why I'm including ships as #7 and #10. Let me clear that up right away... first, they're that cool, IMO. Second, they're only here until July {El Galeón} and August {Nao Victoria} so you need to sense urgency. Third, this post is quick and the one about El Galeón is lovely and descriptive and you need to read it. Anyways, we recently hopped aboard Nao Victoria... quite literally:   The very, very, very first thing you need to know is that the Nao Victoria is a … [Read more...]

St Augustine History Tour Kids

St. Augustine was a pirate's playground in the late 1500's. Our kids recently joined a Pirates, Plunder and Parlay tour and did their own plundering of St. Augustine's booty!! We had sword fights, scavenged the city and learned history {shhh, don't tell... it's fun and educational!}.
