Welcome to the Road Trip Simply section of Simply St. Augustine! If you’re headed to St. Augustine, head back to my home page for how to enjoy St. Augustine like a local. This page is dedicated to tips for planning an Orlando vacation.
I’ve lived in Florida my whole life and in Central FL for a few years. We’ve had Disney, Sea World and Legoland annual passes and know to hit the parks in September after all the tourists are gone. But between the big ticket moments, we’ve made tons of every day memories in Orlando… like the time my hubby and I rented a giant swan shaped paddleboat in JULY and were laughing so hard we were crying but couldn’t tell for sure because we were so HOT – were those tears or just sweat? I was so hot I had to take my jewelry off. Have you ever been that hot? Yeah, that was awesome. My nugget of wisdom: don’t go to Orlando in July. But I digress.
This page is to share the nuggets we’ve learned over the years. I’ll be adding links as I have time, but I have to start with our recent slip away. It’s been unseasonably warm so we took the kiddos for some down time at the Embassy Suites Resort in Lake Buena Vista. They have a splash park for the kids, heated indoor and outdoor pool, activities and enough fun to keep a family busy for a weekend. It was just remodeled and is definitely a not-so-hidden gem (look for Embassy Suites off I-4 just east of Disney).
While we were there, hubby and I stole away for a date night at Todd English’s Bluezoo on Disney property where we watched Epcot’s fireworks at the end of dinner. Other highlights were Wonderworks and a ready-when-we-were lunch at CiCi’s Pizza on I Drive.
Once I’m caught up with those, I’ll tell you about the little hole in the wall with an amazing beer selection and the hidden Chef’s Table experience behind a local tapas bar and the gorgeous gardens tucked in the middle of metro Orlando… and some Disney and Sea World tips, too if you’d like. Let me know what you want to read and I’ll do my best to deliver! Viva la Florida! Viva!
